The “Allrounder” material


This high-strength membrane material has been in use for more than 40 years in canopy applications, facades, as well as for temporary buildings, and at stands at trade fairs. Environmental Compatibility

The collection and recycling of PVC-PE  after its useful life has been reached is becoming increasingly standard practice throughout the world. Connection systems are recycled after separation from the membrane.


After cutting, PVC-PE fabrics are joined by both high-frequency and thermal impulse welding processes. Hightex has the latest welding machinery as well as specialised workers to provide a precise and reliable fabrication of high strength and durable welds.

Construction Methods

PVC-PE glass membranes are used in roofing, cladding and building envelope structures with virtually unlimited design possibilities. In the process of installation, the membrane is mechanically pre-stressed. With the tension depending on the precise details of both the installation requirements and the geometry of the membrane. The value of the pretension stress will depend on the curvature of the membrane but in no case can the membrane be installed without tension being applied. In addition to mechanical tension, the use of pneumatic processes on PVC-PE structures enable this material to be used as an air cushion.

Maintenance and Cleaning

PVC-PE is maintenance free. Inspections are still useful and serve to locate damage caused by sharp objects and so prevent ensuing damage as soon as possible. The application of anti-adhesive top-coatings containing fluorine has led to significant improvements in staining characteristics over the last 10 years, and thus cleaning intervals have been increased significantly.

Fire Classification

This material meets the requirements of the fire classification B1 (flame resistant) according to DIN 4102 and is self- extinguishing. In addition, its low mass has a beneficial effect in case of fire, as typical applications use materials that are only 0.5-3.0mm thick.

Thermal Insulation

Multi-layered membrane structures can be provided with excellent thermal properties either through the entrapment of air, or by the insertion of insulating materials that meet the requirements of high thermal insulation building shells. Amongst the recommended materials are translucent nonwoven materials so as to retain the light transmission properties of the membrane material as far as possible.

Photometric Properties

Depending on the thickness of material the translucency will vary between 5% and 35%. The light transmission can be reduced to zero by inserting an appropriate interlayer.

Colouring, Printing, and Coating

Increasing the volume of pigments in the coating provides Hightex with the opportunity to offer not only standard white PVC-PE but also any desired gradation of colours. The membranes can also be full area printed with patterns or motifs. Membrane transmission and reflectance properties may well be altered as a function of the printing process.


The outstanding properties of PVC-PE allow a warranty of up to 10 years to be granted, the precise time depending on the project.
